Hansaviertel
Hansaviertel is the smallest district of Berlin, between the river Spree and right on the edge of Tiergarten. Destroyed to the ground during WW2, it was revived to set a new standard and be a symbol of progression towards modern days. Between 1957 and 1961 as a result of the Interbau 57 movement world class architects, prominent modernists, were hired to create a space for housing and living - Walter Gropius, Oscar Niemeyer or Alvar Aalto to name a few. It’s likely that the entire district will soon become a UNESCO heritage site.
